In this article we will review The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley.
Book Plot
“The Perennial Philosophy,” Aldous Huxley writes, “may be found among the traditional lore of peoples in every region of the world, and in its fully developed forms it has a place in every one of the higher religions.”
With great wit and stunning intellect—drawing on a diverse array of faiths, including Zen Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Christian mysticism, and Islam—Huxley examines the spiritual beliefs of various religious traditions and explains how they are united by a common human yearning to experience the divine. The Perennial Philosophy includes selections from Meister Eckhart, Rumi, and Lao Tzu, as well as the Bhagavad Gita, Tibetan Book of the Dead, Diamond Sutra, and Upanishads, among many others.

The Perennial Philosophy Review
This book changed my perspective on religion by discussing the common philosophy shared by all religions, emphasizing the importance of using it as a means to connect with one another. One passage in particular caught my attention, discussing how the invention of the steam engine led to a shift in Western philosophy towards focusing on material progress rather than spiritual growth. This false ideology is now ingrained in our society, perpetuated by advertising and education, leading many, including Christians, to unknowingly embrace beliefs that contradict their own faith. Huxley’s words are truly insightful.
