In this article we will review Darkness Visible by William Golding.
Book Plot
At the height of the London blitz, a naked child steps out of an all-consuming fire. Miraculously saved yet hideously scarred, tormented at school and at work, Matty becomes a wanderer, a seeker after some unknown redemption. Two more lost children await him: twins as exquisite as they are loveless. Toni dabbles in political violence, Sophy in sexual tyranny. As Golding weaves their destinies together, as he draws them toward a final conflagration, his book lights up both the inner and outer darknesses of our time.

Darkness Visible Review
Unusual book, certainly William Golding doesn’t write boring literature! I am almost finished with it, and I can’t quite grasp the main idea of the book other than strange events occur, there are child predators, and people can be cruel. It’s not an offensive book, and the only challenge is trying to understand the underlying message. It follows the lives of several individuals whose paths intersect with a peculiar man who suffered during the London Blitz. Although labeled as a mystery, it doesn’t attempt to provide any solutions. Perhaps in the past, this book was more highly regarded due to Golding’s previous work, Lord of the Flies, but now it feels more like a collection of stories about not-so-nice people, with a few exceptions. The portrayal of monsters in the book may have been more shocking in the past, when issues like child abuse and criminal behavior were less common. It seems like Golding aimed to shock readers, but the impact has lessened over time with changes in society. The book offers an intriguing perspective and made me reconsider the origins of certain negative aspects of culture, highlighting the influence of the 1960s rather than the 1980s. Golding’s writing is skillful and thought-provoking.
