In this article we will review Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens.
Book Plot
When Arthur Clennam returns to England after many years abroad, he takes a kindly interest in Amy Dorrit, his mother’s seamstress, and in the affairs of Amy’s father, William Dorrit, a man of shabby grandeur, long imprisoned for debt in Marshalsea prison. As Arthur soon discovers, the dark shadow of the prison stretches far beyond its walls to affect the lives of many, from the kindly Mr Panks, the reluctant rent-collector of Bleeding Heart Yard, and the tipsily garrulous Flora Finching, to Merdle, an unscrupulous financier, and the bureaucratic Barnacles in the Circumlocution Office. A masterly evocation of the state and psychology of imprisonment, Little Dorrit is one of the supreme works of Dickens’s maturity.

Little Dorrit Review
This book is mainly a love story with a complex plot involving fraud, murder, suicide, hate, domestic violence, mystery, and strange occurrences in a rundown mansion. It follows the story of Arthur Clennam, who returns to England after twenty years in China to find that he is a stranger in his own land. His mother, Mrs. Clennam, is a cold and unforgiving woman with dark secrets, and he wonders about the reason for her hatred. In the same house lives Amy Dorrit, a young woman who cares for her father in debtors prison. Arthur falls for Amy, despite their age difference, and gets involved in a business venture with an inventor. However, their troubles begin when they are tempted by a get-rich-quick scheme proposed by the wealthy Mr. Merdle. The evil Mr. Blandois reenters the scene, bringing destruction to those who cannot pay him. The story follows their struggles and the obstacles they face, leading to a conclusion that fans of Dickens will likely predict. Little Dorrit is portrayed as a lovable character, but sadly, such people only exist in fiction.
