In this article we will review Women in Love by David Lawrence.
Book Plot
“Women in Love” by D. H. Lawrence follows the lives of the Brangwen sisters, Ursula and Gudrun, and their relationships with two men, Rupert Birkin and Gerald Crich. Set in the Midlands of England during the 1910s, the novel delves into questions of social class, politics, and the dynamics between men and women. Ursula, a teacher, is drawn to Rupert, a school inspector, while Gudrun, an artist, seeks a relationship with Gerald, the heir to a coal mine. As World War I unfolds, the consequences of these relationships play out, culminating in a vacation in the Tyrolean Alps.

Women in Love Review
It’s ironic that Lawrence is now considered a traditional classic author; it would be amusing to see his reaction. He has become everything he tried to avoid, which is quite remarkable. I am a strong supporter of reading anything by Lawrence. His writing in English is unparalleled when he is at his best. He had a natural talent for language, words, rhythm, and meaning, along with a boldness in his writing that is incredibly intense and self-assured.
He was full of contradictions, frustrating yet captivating. He took himself very seriously, and it is interesting to read his novels to see how he presents himself in various disguises and the challenging situations he puts himself through. His earnestness almost turns his books into comedies now, and like the best comedies, they touch your soul when you least expect it.
However, his plots and characters are a different story altogether. Sometimes they go terribly wrong, while in other moments, they shine brightly. This is what sets him apart as a poet writing in prose. His books can be described as prose poetry.
Lawrence’s writing is like the flickering light of a candle; he illuminates intermittently but not consistently. He shines brightly and then fades away. He brings light into the darkness and shows us things we might otherwise overlook. He is old-fashioned and disorganized, yet he offers a guiding light in the darkness before disappearing into the shadows.
